MISS TEXAS 2020
Lesly Garcia, 24 years old, was born in Puebla, Mexico but raised in Houston, Texas. Lesly and her mother immigrated to the United States when she was five years old in search of a better life like the millions of immigrants who come here to this country. Despite her lack of opportunities and different adversities, Lesly's greatest dream was to attain a higher degree of education and become an inspiration to come to this country in search of the American dream.
In 2016, Lesly became a first-generation college student and attained a bachelor’s degree in Multiplatform Journalism, and in 2018 she attained a master’s degree in Digital Media Production from Sam Houston State University. She began her journey in communications six years ago, since she felt her life purpose was to become a voice for the voiceless. “As an immigrant in this country, at one point I felt like I didn’t have a voice. I didn’t want to tell others because I feared being looked at in a different way." Because of her journey and experiences, she knew first hand what it was like to be unrepresented. As soon as Lesly attained her residency, she felt relieved that she didn’t have to hide her background anymore.
Lesly founded The Warm Heart Project in 2016, an organization that promotes love, respect, and compassion for all living beings. This organization conducts several projects all year round to give back to the community and raise awareness on different matters. All in one, this mission— is to make the phrase “being kind” a global movement, that could heal our society one day at a time because no act of kindness is too small. Lesly uses pageantry and her career in communications as platforms to become a leader in her community and continue her charity work by being the voice of the voiceless.
